Sandwich (IL): Self-Care with Acupuncture
When we are confronted with a mental or physical challenge today, it’s common to engage different physicians and to address it with prescriptions. In many cases, such approaches are helpful and necessary. At the same time, they can sometimes be temporary solutions or ones that require a dependence on external factors.
A personal plan for self-case also can include organic, holistic treatments with Chinese medicine. Acupuncture centers on the Chinese concept of qi (pronounced chee). Qi is the essence – the life force – that flows inside of us. It courses through our body’s pathways with start and end points on the head, hands and feet.
When our qi is abundant and moving openly in us along with properly functioning organs, our body, mind and spirit are balanced and aligned, and we experience greater well-being.
If a disruptive factor such as illness, injury or emotional trauma should visit us, it blocks our qi and makes our organs fall out of sync. This then makes the body release warning and distress signals.
As a focused and natural response to these signals, acupuncture targets specific ailments by using very fine needles on the skin’s surface to stimulate acupuncture points related to them. By prompting reactions such as sending blood, natural chemicals or lymphatic-system fluid to an affected area, the stimulation from acupuncture liberates blocked qi and allows it to flow freely again in favor of well-being.
The acupuncture needles are thinner than medical needles, so while you might feel a small prick when they are inserted, you should typically find the sensation to be more comfortable than getting a regular shot.
You can enjoy the benefits of acupuncture at a lower cost through community acupuncture at A Touch of Ginger.
Acupuncture in a Community Setting for Sandwich (IL)
Community acupuncture at A Touch of Ginger lets you and from one to five other people receive your ailment-specific acupuncture treatments in zero-gravity chairs in an open room designed for enhanced relaxation and comfort.
If you are new to our practice, or you are an existing patient but haven’t received acupuncture within the last six months, your community acupuncture treatments will begin with a private 90-minute consultation. During this time with you, we will learn your medical history and diagnose any current ailments as Chinese medicine defines them.
If you are a current, active patient, you can begin community acupuncture whenever you choose.
As you maintain your treatments as part of your personal health plan, your symptoms may differ or adjust from session to session. Your acupuncturist will remain in step with your current symptoms and target your acupoints according to them. You will then rest with your acupuncture needles for about 30 to 40 minutes.
The acupoints in community acupuncture will focus on the head, neck, arms, hands, feet and lower legs, so you will remain fully clothed during sessions. Because it is performed by our licensed practitioners, your community acupuncture also will be safe and sanitary.
You’ll further note that though you share a room with others, the zero-gravity chairs are comfortably spaced. You will enjoy the energy and company of your group while likely noticing little noise from the treatments around you. We include white noise and soft music to further soothe and relax you as well.
Your community acupuncture treatments will typically be about half the price of private acupuncture sessions and focus on the main symptom(s) we define with you. They won’t include other modalities that may be a part of private treatments, such as cupping, moxibustion, gua sha or herbal medicine.
As we keep track of symptoms and progress, the community acupuncturist may recommend that a patient be reevaluated in a private-treatment setting because of changes in their medical history.
Community Acupuncture for Sandwich (IL): Women’s Fertility
Community acupuncture at A Touch of Ginger can be a meaningful contribution to female reproductive health as well.
A woman’s menstrual cycle is regulated by hormones that increase the possibility for a pregnancy each month at the end of each cycle. In addition to a woman’s health and reproductive history, a balanced cycle is vital to fertility. If it is imbalanced and ovulation does not occur properly, a woman cannot become pregnant.
Acupuncture treatments can support fertility by helping to ensure that enough good blood and inner energy are flowing through the reproductive system, which helps to balance hormones and maintain a well-regulated menstrual cycle.
Just as important, your approach to acupuncture can help address and treat any underlying conditions that can interfere with fertility, such as stress, anxiety or inflammation.
