Community Acupuncture for Plano (IL)
Acupuncture by A Touch of Ginger centers on the Chinese concept of qi (pronounced chee). Qi is the essence – the life force – that flows inside of us. It courses through our body’s pathways with start and end points on the head, hands and feet.
When our qi is abundant and moving freely in us in concert with properly functioning organs, our body, mind and spirit are balanced and aligned, and we experience greater well-being.
If we are stricken by a disruptive factor such as illness, injury or emotional trauma, it blocks our qi and our organs fall out of sync. The body will then release signals of warning and distress.
Acupuncture targets a specific ailment by using very fine needles on the skin’s surface to stimulate acupuncture points related to the ailment. By prompting reactions such as sending blood, natural chemicals or lymphatic-system fluid to an affected area, this stimulation frees and restores blocked qi, allowing you to once again feel greater health.
By ensuring enough good blood and inner energy are flowing through the body, acupuncture also can contribute to a woman’s fertility by helping to balance and regulate consistent menstrual cycles.
If you live or work in Plano and you are proactive about your health and well-being, A Touch of Ginger makes it possible for you to enjoy the benefits of acupuncture at a lower cost through community acupuncture.
During community acupuncture, you and from one to five other people receive your ailment-specific acupuncture in zero-gravity chairs in an open room designed for enhanced relaxation and comfort. Your community acupuncture treatments will typically be about half the price of private sessions.
As we keep track of symptoms and progress, the community acupuncturist may recommend that a patient be reevaluated in a private-treatment setting because of changes in their medical history.
Community Acupuncture for Plano (IL): Getting Started
If you are a current, active patient, you can begin community acupuncture whenever you choose.
If you are new to community acupuncture with us, or you are an existing patient but haven’t received acupuncture within the last six months, your treatments will begin with a private 90-minute consultation. This is our opportunity to learn about you and your health and establish your diagnosis according to Chinese medicine.
As you continue your treatments as part of your personal health plan, your symptoms may differ or adjust from session to session. In step with your current symptoms, your acupuncturist will insert your acupoints’ specific needles. You will then rest with them for about 30 to 40 minutes.
Community acupuncture acupoints focus on the head, neck, arms, hands, feet and lower legs, so patients remain fully clothed during sessions. Because it is performed by our licensed practitioners, your community acupuncture is safe and sanitary as well.
You’ll also note that though you share a room with others, the zero-gravity chairs are comfortably spaced apart. You will enjoy the energy and company of others, but you likely will not hear much noise or talking from the treatments around you. We also include white noise and soft music to further soothe and relax you.
When your community acupuncture concludes, your acupuncturist will remove your needles and you will be free to go until your next session!

Plano (IL) Acupuncture: Quick Fact
What we now know and refer to as community acupuncture in the U.S. began in Portland, Oregon, in 2002. It was started by acupuncturists Lisa Rohleder and Skip Van Meter after both had been released from their positions providing acupuncture treatments for public-health programs because of funding cuts and other systemic problems. They wanted to make the benefits of acupuncture available to more people who did not qualify for public assistance or earn enough to pay for treatments out-of-pocket.
